Spurs Forward Matt Bonner Brings SXSW To San Antonio

If you like the idea of SXSW, but would rather not schlep to Austin to battle the harrowing crowds, then you are in luck. Several acts from the music festival are making the jaunt south for a performance in our home court, thanks to Spurs forward Matt Bonner. The sole member of the Spurs’ ginger Goliath contingent is hosting Rock On Night before and after the team’s Friday match-up with the Los Angeles Lakers. A diverse line-up of indie bands will take the Bud Light Courtyard stage at the AT&T Center to raise money for the Silver and Black Give Back and Bonner’s Rock On Foundation. Bonner’s charity, which he started with his brother Luke, aims to enrich communities by supporting artistic, athletic and scholastic potential. The Rock On Foundation recently coaxed the Walkmen out of retirement for an event during the NBA All-Star Weekend. Now four bands are taking the time out of SXSW to shore up support for Bonner’s cause. The pre-game festivities begin with New Hampshire indie rock sextet the Tan Vampires. Then STRNGRS, a gritty blues- infused rock trio out of New York, will entertain audiences during halftime.
